(Day 1, Western Wilds of Tasmania)
On the first day of this tour, you will journey to Tasmania’s wild west coast with your local Tasmanian tour guide to enjoy the finest cruise experience the region has to offer. The day begins with a departure from Hobart, traveling along the Lyell Highway through the Western Wilds. The first major stop is Derwent Bridge, home to Lake St Clair, the source of Hobart’s Derwent River. Here, lunch will be served at the Hungry Wombat Cafe, followed by a visit to The Wall in the Wilderness, an extraordinary wood carving masterpiece. The journey continues through the Great Dividing Range and the winding Surprise Valley at Mt Arrowsmith. Along the way, you will visit two stunning waterfalls, with an optional walk to Nelson Falls. You will also explore the west coast’s rich mining history at the Iron Blow Lookout and the historic mining town of Queenstown. After a full day of exploration along the Western Wilds Drive, you will spend the night in the picturesque seaside fishing town of Strahan, preparing for your cruise adventure on the following day.
(Day 2, Gordon River Cruise & Sarah Island)
On the second day, the journey begins at the docks with a six-hour Gordon River Cruise. This fully catered experience includes comprehensive narration about Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon River, a world heritage-listed area. The cruise features stops at Heritage Landing, where you can view an ancient Huon Pine thousands of years old, and Sarah Island, where you will learn about its harsh penal settlement predating Port Arthur. After the cruise, if you’re still eager to explore, you can visit Strahan’s Hogarth Falls and the nearby Ocean Beach before enjoying another peaceful evening in the picturesque town of Strahan.
(Day 3, Journey The Midlands Home, Launceston)
On the final day of your tour, we journey back to Hobart through Tasmania’s midlands. Departing Strahan, we head to Sheffield, the Town of Murals, where you can explore an impressive collection of murals by local and international artists, browse charming local shops, and enjoy refreshments at a cozy cafe or bakery. Continuing on, we make our way to Launceston, Tasmania’s second-largest city, with optional stops at Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm and Ashgrove Dairy to sample some of Tasmania’s finest produce. In Launceston, we visit the breathtaking Cataract Gorge, featuring the longest single-span chairlift in the Southern Hemisphere. As the afternoon unfolds, we embark on the final leg of our journey down to Hobart via the Heritage Highway, with a rest stop at historic Campbell Town, before arriving in Hobart by late afternoon. With your Tasmanian west coast adventure complete, we bid you farewell, hoping you cherished the wild west coast’s beauty, history, and unique experiences.
